humdrum adj. 无聊的，千篇一律的 (not interesting; dull) / ˈhəmˌdrəm /

• What began as just another humdrum day at school turned into the most exciting day of the semester when an unknown perpetrator started a food fight in the cafeteria.

conundrum n. 难题 (a confusing or difficult problem) / kəˈnəndrəm /

• Teenagers face many conundrums, but the most puzzling problem must be the decision about what they want to do with the rest of their lives.

immune / immure / inure

immune adj. 免疫的 (not capable of being affected by a disease ) / iˈmyo͞on /

• Carmondy realized that she was immune to Chickenpox when she remained healthy while the rest of her class came down with the virus.

adj. 不受影响的 (not influenced or affected by something)

• Some of us may live longer and healthier lives than others but, in the end, no one is immune to death.

immure v. 囚禁 (imprison) /iˈmyo͝or /

• The prisoners were immured in their cells overnight and would only be let out in the case of extreme emergency.

inure v. 习惯于（不好的事物) (to habituate to something undesirable) / əˈn(j)ʊr /

• Initially, Tracey hated George's snoring, but she eventually became so inured to it that she was unable to fall asleep without the noise.

enjoin / adjoin / abjure / adjure / adjourn

enjoin v. 禁止 (to prevent someone from doing something) /ɪnˈdʒɔɪn /

• The robber was enjoined from continuing his crime spree when he was caught red-handed and sentenced to twenty years in prison.

adjoin v. 与…毗邻 (of a building, room, area of land, etc.): to be next to or joined with something ) / əˈdʒɔɪn /

• Much of Costa Rica's beachfront property is protected from development because a long, thin strip of land adjoining the sea is reserved as a natural wildlife refuge.

abjure v.正式放弃 (to reject (something) formally) /əbˈdʒʊə /

• Some United States expats have found the tax laws so onerous that they have abjured their citizenship.

adjure v. 命令 (to urge or command (someone) to do something) / əˈjo͝or /

• Our English teacher adjured us to write each vocabulary word in several different sentences in order to avoid making common mistakes, such as confusing the words "abjure" and "adjure."

adjourn v. 休庭 (to break off with the intention of resuming it later) / əˈdʒərn /

• The judge called for the hearing to be adjourned while the jury took a lunch break.
